Choose your first-night hotel by sleep and luggage moves
After a late flight, look after sleep before sightseeing on the first day. Deciding in advance how far you will travel after immigration and baggage claim leaves less to figure out once you land. All times in this guide are Taiwan local time.
Scroll the table sideways. With a keyboard, move focus to the table and use the arrow keys.
| Choice | Suits you if | What to check before booking |
|---|---|---|
| One night near the airport | You want to rest before a long transfer | Late-night hotel transfer, late check-in, the move into the city the next day |
| Straight to Taipei | You want to stay at the same hotel throughout the trip | Late-night bus or taxi, the last stretch to the hotel, late check-in |
| Wait for the first MRT train | You can put up with spending the night at the airport | First train time, the time you can enter a room at the city hotel |
Compare total cost, not just the room rate: add the first-day transfer cost and the cost of changing hotels the next day. If you have already booked your Taipei room for the night you spend near the airport, the two nights can overlap. Writing down the time left between entering the room and checking out makes it easier to judge how much to spend on a short rest.
If you miss the last MRT train, look at buses and taxis
On the official Taoyuan Airport MRT first and last train page, checked on October 5, 2026, the last trains from Terminal 1 Station (A12) to Taipei Main Station (A1) are the express at 22:58 and the commuter train at 23:37. The 00:28 commuter train on the same page goes to Terminal 2 (A13), so it is not a last train to Taipei. If you arrive at Terminal 2, change the station selection to A13 and check again.
Landing time and the time you can get into the station are not the same. If your flight lands just before the last train, look up buses and taxis in advance as well, instead of booking your hotel counting on the MRT alone. For first and last trains, select your travel date and direction again to get exact times.
For Bus 1819, check your arrival terminal and the next departure
Bus 1819 in the official bus lookup connects Taoyuan Airport and Taipei Bus Station. The timetable for the direction leaving the airport, checked on October 5, 2026, shows services after midnight and at dawn. On the lookup screen, select your travel date and the direction toward Taipei, then look at the next departure from your arrival terminal.
The bus does not take you to the door of your hotel. Decide in advance how you will walk from Taipei Bus Station to your hotel, or whether you will take a taxi. It is also best to avoid changing to the city MRT at dawn. If you have a lot of luggage, choose with the leg after you get off the bus in mind.
For a direct ride to your hotel, an airport taxi
The official Taoyuan tourism guide says airport taxis run 24 hours. Follow the signs in the arrivals hall to the official taxi stand, and have your hotel's English name and address ready. An outlying hotel chosen to save a little on the room rate may stop looking like a saving once you add the taxi fare.
The number of cars and the waiting time vary with conditions on site. If you need a child car seat or a larger vehicle, you may not be able to take an ordinary taxi right away, so check in advance for transport that meets those conditions.

For a room you will enter at 1 a.m., book from the night before
For example, to arrive at a hotel at 1:30 a.m. on November 10 and go straight to bed, you would normally book one night with check-in on November 9 and checkout on November 10. If you book only with check-in on November 10, you may have to wait until the regular check-in time. The Cosmos Hotel's official room guide also lists regular check-in at 15:00 and checkout at 12:00.
Even if you reserve the room for the previous date, you need to tell the hotel you are arriving late. Give the hotel your actual arrival date and time, and get a reply on whether the booking will be held and you can check in after midnight. If you don't show up on the booking date without contact, it may be treated as a no-show. A 24-hour front desk does not mean your booking will be held until dawn.
I booked with check-in on November 9, and I expect to reach the hotel around 1:30 a.m. Taiwan local time on November 10. Can you keep the room so I can check in at that time? Please also tell me how to contact you if my flight is delayed.
This wording is an example inquiry. Replace it with your actual booking date and expected hotel arrival time before you send it. Writing it in the special requests box is not enough; wait for the hotel's reply. If you will stay at the same hotel the next day too, also tell them whether the bookings for the following nights are split.
Hotel candidates near the airport and at Taipei Main Station
The two places below are candidates for comparing where to stay. Their names and locations were checked, but no hotel has approved a dawn check-in for a particular booking. Choose after you give your arrival time and confirm that you can enter the room.
To rest near the airport: Hyatt Regency
Hyatt Regency Taoyuan International Airport is at 1-1 Hangzhan South Road, Taoyuan. The rooms are not inside the terminal, so you need transport from the airport to the hotel. You can see the location in the hotel's official guide.
The hotel shuttle schedule shows service hours of 04:00 to 23:30 and times for each stop. The shuttle does not run 24 hours. If you plan to leave the airport at 1 or 2 a.m., arrange separate transport, because the regular shuttle will not be running. Before you leave, check the boarding point and times for your terminal again.

To keep staying in the city: Cosmos Hotel
Cosmos Hotel Taipei is a candidate near Taipei Main Station. The official address is No. 43, Section 1, Zhongxiao West Road. Agoda lists it as "Cosmos Hotel Taipei Main Station." Check the English name and address on the hotel's official guide and on the booking page together.
Taipei Bus Station, where the airport bus arrives, and the hotel entrance are different places. Check the route you would take with luggage at night, or be ready to take a taxi for the last stretch. The official room guide lists regular check-in at 15:00 and checkout at 12:00. If you arrive at dawn, also do the previous-night booking and the late check-in contact from the section above.

Leave the next morning free
If you slept near the airport, plan breakfast and checkout, then the move to Taipei. You may arrive before the regular check-in time at your city hotel, so ask in advance whether it can hold your luggage, and start your day at lunch to keep things less rushed. Plan the morning without counting on a free early check-in.
If you went straight to your Taipei hotel, rest in the morning and walk around the hotel from lunch. Using the same hotel from the first night means you don't have to repack your suitcase. Adding an early-morning tour or a long day trip after sleeping at dawn leaves too little time for sleep.
Even when you wait for the first MRT train, arriving in the city and entering your room are separate. The first trains to Taipei from Terminal 1, as of the checking date, are the express at 05:58 and the commuter train at 06:07, but if the hotel's check-in is in the afternoon, there may be no room to rest in during the morning. Weigh the cost of taking the first train against the waiting time.

What often confuses people before booking
Can I walk to a hotel near the airport?
"Near the airport" in a hotel's name does not mean a walking connection to the terminal. Check the transport the hotel lists and whether it runs at your arrival time.
What if my flight is delayed?
Tell the hotel your new expected arrival time and check whether the booking will be held. Revisit your bus or hotel shuttle plan against the time you finish immigration. Check the no-show and cancellation conditions of your rate when you book.
Can I save on the first night's hotel by waiting at the airport?
If you don't book a room for the dawn hours, you can cut that night's cost. But it means accepting the discomfort of spending the night at the airport and the wait until afternoon check-in at the city hotel. If the goal is to lie down and rest right away, booking the room from the previous night is the better fit.
