The Gold Museum in this guide is the New Taipei City Gold Museum in Jinguashi. It is separate from the privately run exhibition venues with similar names that you see in the Jiufen alleys. Both areas are on the same bus route, but you cannot walk between them as if they were one place, and planning that way makes the day too tight.

Check the museum's closing days first

According to the official information checked on October 9, 2026, the museum is open 09:30 to 17:00 on weekdays and 09:30 to 18:00 on Saturdays, Sundays and Taiwan public holidays. It is closed on the first Monday of each month; if that day is a national holiday in Taiwan, it opens and closes the next day instead. Also check Lunar New Year's Eve and Lunar New Year's Day, closures for natural disasters announced by the government, and separate notices.

These are the general opening hours. That does not mean the last entry or sign-up time for each exhibition hall or activity is the same. Before you leave, check the museum's notices for the day and the activity information. A general admission ticket may not cover every activity, so plan accordingly.

Also check the gold panning activity separately. The museum has announced that gold panning is suspended from October 5 to November 9, 2026. During that period, leave the activity out of the day and plan around the exhibitions. You can check whether it has resumed in the official notice on the suspension.

A notice to check for October visits: the third floor of the Dadi Hall (大地館) is temporarily closed while an exhibition is being installed. The notice title gives September 21 to October 22, and the activity period runs to October 23. Rather than fixing a reopening date, check the reopening notice for that space again. It is not a notice that the whole museum is closed.

Connect by Bus 965, or change at Ruifang

The Taiwan Tourism Administration page for the Bus 965 Jiufen and Jinguashi route says it links Fuzhong Station with the Gold Museum in Jinguashi and also stops at Jiufen Old Street. When you leave from a Taipei hotel, check not only the stop near the hotel but also where to board for the Jinguashi direction. On a museum-first day, stay on the bus past Jiufen and ride on to the Gold Museum.

If your hotel is convenient for trains, you can also take a train from Taipei to Ruifang and change to a bus. The museum's transport guide lists a route from Ruifang to Jinguashi by Bus 788 and others. Leave separate time for walking and waiting between the train's arrival and boarding the bus, and check the train back too. It does not guarantee the last connection on a given date.

The timetable from the terminus of Bus 965 and the arrival times at the intermediate Jiufen stop are different. Road conditions can lengthen travel and waiting, so count on more than the boarding time when you plan the day. When you get off the bus, also check the destination and the direction.

Museum first, Jiufen in the afternoon

  1. Before you leave: check the museum's closures and partial closures, the round-trip bus and train, and the local weather notices. For a large bag, it is easier to move around if you check whether your existing Taipei hotel can hold it and leave it there.
  2. Morning: go to Jinguashi and visit the Gold Museum. Pick the exhibitions you want to see first, and add an activity only after checking its separate operating and sign-up conditions.
  3. Afternoon: check Bus 965 toward Taipei and Fuzhong and go to Jiufen Old Street. Decide your priority among an alley walk, a meal and a teahouse, and leave time to rest.
  4. Return: take a bus to Taipei, or connect by train from Ruifang. Rather than relying on the last connection, decide which service you will take back before you finish sightseeing.

This order is an itinerary suggestion built on the official route and opening hours. It is not a set of travel times from a site visit or a confirmed timetable. If you start late, rather than rushing in the museum, see only Jiufen or split the museum off to another day.

21:00 is not the last bus time at the Jiufen stop

The official Bus 965 timetable checked on October 9, 2026 shows departures from the Gold Museum until 21:00 in the return direction. The exact departure time from Jiufen Old Street, an intermediate stop, can't be confirmed in the public table. That does not mean you can board at Jiufen at 21:00.

On your visit day, check the real-time bus positions and arrival information on the same official route page. If the queue is long or service changes, you need to adjust the return plan as well. If you chose changing at Ruifang as the alternative, check the train connection toward Taipei as well as the bus.

If the rain is heavy or you are tired from walking, cut one place. Even when you go into an indoor teahouse in Jiufen, there is outdoor movement left between the bus stop and the alleys. The museum is not entirely indoors either, since moving between its exhibition buildings takes you outside. If operations and transport are unsettled on the day, it is better to keep your Taipei plans and move the visit.

You don't need to move hotels just for this day

If you plan to go and return from Taipei, keep your existing hotel and fit the plan to the next day's schedule. If the night view or a mountain stay is itself the goal, you can consider a separate overnight plan, but staying over just in case you miss that day's bus is not something this guide recommends.

If you arrive at the airport after midnight on your first day, first decide your stay and transfer using where to stay and how to get around after a late arrival at Taoyuan before this sightseeing day. Whether to put both sights into the day after a late arrival depends on how much sleep you get and when you set out.

Hotels to compare for your route

If you are taking a day trip to Jiufen and keeping your Taipei hotel, choose a base around the transport you will use most the next day. Compare these options near Taipei Main Station and Daan Station, and check your actual route to Jiufen and return service separately.

Cosmos Hotel Taipei: For rail and bus connections from Taipei Main Station

The official address of Cosmos Hotel Taipei is No. 43, Section 1, Zhongxiao West Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City. Compare it if you want to use the Taipei Main Station area for city plans and trips elsewhere. The Taipei Bus Station, Airport MRT, MRT, and hotel entrance are not all in the same place, so check the exit for the transport you plan to use.

If you will make repeated trips to Daan or the Wenhu Line, you may need extra MRT rides and transfers. Check the actual elevator and entrance route if you are moving through the station with large bags. Before booking, confirm room occupancy, beds, breakfast, the cancellation deadline, and how to contact the hotel about a late check-in.

Park Taipei Hotel: For plans around Daan Station and the Wenhu Line

Park Taipei Hotel is at No. 317, Section 1, Fuxing South Road, Daan District, Taipei City. Compare it if you want to start near Daan Station and connect city plans with trips on the Wenhu Line. Check the address and actual entrance on both booking sites rather than relying on the property name alone.

If you use the Airport MRT at Taipei Main Station, you will still need a separate MRT ride or car trip to the hotel. Staying here does not remove the walk around Maokong’s tea houses or Jiufen’s lanes. With large luggage, check the station exit and elevator route. Before paying, confirm room occupancy, beds, breakfast, cancellation terms, and luggage-storage arrangements.
