Plan the Taoyuan arrival night first: decide whether to stay near the airport or travel into Taipei, then set aside a full day for Jiufen and Jinguashi and a separate half-day for Maokong. Allow time for the return journeys and the next morning’s start.

Do not force every stop into one day. Travel connections, museum opening days, gondola service and weather can affect the plan, so check the operators’ and venues’ current notices for your travel dates.

Compare Taipei bases: airport area, Taipei Station or Da’an
BaseWorks well whenTrade-offHotel details
Airport areaYou want to sleep near the airport after a late arrival, then travel into Taipei the next day. This is not a Taipei sightseeing base. Check the terminal-to-hotel transfer and whether the hotel can accommodate your late arrival.
Taipei StationYou want to keep one Taipei base and use rail and MRT connections for the city and a Jiufen day trip.Map the luggage route from your chosen station exit to the hotel. Da’an and Maokong plans may need another MRT connection.
Da’anYou plan to use Da’an Station or the Wenhu Line on several days, including a visit to Taipei Zoo or Maokong. You will need a further city transfer from Taipei Main Station on the Airport MRT. A Da’an base does not remove the separate journey to Jiufen or Maokong’s teahouses.

Separate the arrival day from your outing days

Even an early-morning arrival at Taoyuan leaves immigration, baggage collection and the trip to your accommodation. Decide whether to start sightseeing that morning or rest and go out later, using your flight arrival and the property’s actual check-in terms.

Treat Jiufen and Jinguashi as a full-day option and Maokong as a separate half-day. The museum and old-street visit, gondola ride and tea stop have different time and weather considerations; there is no need to combine them into one outing.

One possible plan is to rest on the arrival day, set aside a full day for Jiufen and Jinguashi, then reserve a separate half-day for Maokong. This is only an example, not a schedule tailored to your flight or travel dates. If rain is forecast, the Gold Museum is closed, or the gondola suspends service, change the order; if needed, move Maokong to a day when the gondola is running and use an indoor Taipei activity for the other slot. Check official notices and each venue’s operating days for your dates.

Choose where to sleep after an early arrival

Choose between resting near the airport and travelling into Taipei for your first night. Check the official timetable for your date, the walk from your arrival terminal to the platform, the accommodation’s check-in time and its luggage arrangements.

If your flight lands close to the last train, do not assume the timetable alone tells you when you will reach your hotel. Include the final leg to the property; if late check-in is unavailable, consider staying near the airport.

Decide whether to visit Jiufen alone or add Jinguashi

Start by deciding whether you have a full day and whether Jiufen alone is enough, or whether to add the Gold Museum area in Jinguashi. Visiting both makes the connections between stops and the museum’s opening day part of the plan.

Before leaving, check the museum’s notice for your date, current transport information and the return trip to Taipei. Set the order around the places you plan to visit and the connections available that day.

Give Maokong a half-day for tea and a walk

Plan Maokong as a half-day for the gondola, a teahouse and, if you want, a short walk. The gondola starts near Taipei Zoo MRT and Maokong has tea shops, so it works as a distinct outing between city days.

The gondola’s closure or maintenance days may differ from a teahouse’s opening days. Check both and the weather-related service notice on the day, then confirm how you will get back.

Compare stays by route and check-in conditions

You do not need to move accommodation every day. Compare an airport-area stay with a Taipei base around your arrival time, return from day trips, luggage and check-in arrangements.

Before booking, match each property’s location to your route and check the check-in and cancellation terms that apply to your dates.
