Choose your arrival station and uphill and downhill services first. If you want sunrise, set aside a mountain night, then check the Zhushan ticket and the previous day’s departure announcement.
For a Fenqihu stop, plan the onward service and your luggage before getting off. A service that passes through the town is different from a stopover followed by a later departure.
Arrival station and uphill transport
THSR Chiayi and the conventional station in the city are separate starting points. Decide whether the train journey or time in Alishan matters more, then check the destination, arrival time and any bus detour.
Separate the main line from the sunrise train
The Forest Railway main line from Chiayi and the Zhushan sunrise branch from Alishan are separate journeys. Plan your mountain arrival day and the following morning independently.
Mountain and city hotel bases
Shermuh is a mountain candidate for a shorter pre-dawn approach; Nice Prince is a city candidate before going up or after descending. Check access to the station, stairs, luggage and shuttle conditions for each.
