Check street names and the lake's location on the official map first
The official YUFUINFO walking map is marked November 2023 in the file. Keep it open as a reference for street names and relative positions around the station and Lake Kinrin. The shop names and facility layout on the map are not a current business list or same-day directions.
The map legend shows street names in front of the station (Yufumi-dori) and around Lake Kinrin. The current YUFUINFO guide to Yunotsubo also describes the stretch along Yufumi-dori in front of the station to Shirataki Bridge. For side-street junctions and whether shops are open, check local information and each shop's official notice on the day you leave. The official map promises no travel times, and the timings of older model courses are hard to apply to a plan today.
Yufuin Station → Yufumi-dori in front of the station → Shirataki Bridge → part or all of Yunotsubo Street → around Lake Kinrin → your reserved departure point for the return
You can change the order on the way to Lake Kinrin. Decide whether to see the shops first and then the lake, or to make only a short lakeside stop, depending on your bags, the weather and your departure time, and then look at the map for the streets to use there and back.
The original map is available at the YUFUINFO official walking map. Since the map is marked November 2023, check the current shop list and operating information separately in the latest official attraction guide for Yunotsubo Street.
From the station to Yunotsubo, think about the shops and your return point together
The official Yunotsubo Street guide describes going from Yufuin Station straight along Yufumi-dori in front of the station to Shirataki Bridge. It then introduces the roughly 800 m stretch after that, with souvenir shops and sweets shops, as Yufuin's main street. Treating "station to Shirataki Bridge" and "Yunotsubo, about 800 m" as two parts makes it easier to plan where to look at the shops.
The official page also says opening hours and closing days differ from shop to shop. If you are going to visit a specific shop, check the shop's official account or notice for your visit date instead of relying on a name left on an online map. If you have a return trip fixed, work out how long it takes to get back to the reserved departure point before you extend your time in the shops.

To leave the crowded stretch of shops behind, look at the riverside walk
The official Yunotsubo Street guide also describes a way to turn off through an alley when you get a little tired, leave the busy road and walk slowly along the upper Oita River. It is a stretch to choose on a day when you want to focus on the river and the scenery around it rather than on visiting shops.
The official page doesn't give the starting alley, the detailed route, the round-trip time or the current passability of this riverside alternative. So check the riverside stretch you want on the map and follow the local signs and passage notices. If you have planned a lot of shop time or your return trip is close, leave room for the lake and the way back to the departure point instead of stretching the walk.
The official guide says the walk is pleasant with a view of Mount Yufu in good weather, but the actual view varies with clouds, rain and the season. Real-time information on whether the lakeside or riverside paths can be used in bad weather was not available, so check local notices and the weather on the day.

At Lake Kinrin, walk the lakeside path and treat mist as a possibility
The official Lake Kinrin guide says a walking path has been laid out around the lake and that you can see fish and waterbirds. The listed address is 1561-1 Kawakami, Yufuin-cho, Yufu City, Oita Prefecture, and it shows no closing days. This is basic attraction information, not the total length of a path or the time for a full loop.
The official guide explains that on cold early mornings between autumn and winter you may see the lake wrapped in morning mist. Mist is a natural phenomenon that depends on temperature and weather, so it can't be promised for your departure date. Make the time spent walking the lake and the paths around it the center of the plan rather than mist alone, and check the local weather too.

For current information around the lake, see the official Lake Kinrin attraction page, and read the official Yunotsubo Street guide for the street walk and the riverside alternative.
Finish the walk according to where your return service departs
Check on your booking confirmation screen whether the service leaves from Yufuin Station or from the bus center in front of the station. Similar names can hide different boarding places; mark the way back from the lake to that place on the map. Take current times and service notices from the carrier you booked and from the notices for your visit date.
If you start sightseeing from the time you arrive, you also need time to get back to the departure point. No fixed walking time is given here, so size the time you spend around the lake and the river to your actual walking pace, and avoid planning to arrive just as the service boards. For details on train and bus alternatives, see the guide to choosing a return service when Yufuin no Mori is sold out.
If you are unsure about walking with a suitcase, first compare the locations and request conditions of the lockers in front of the station and Chikki. For the whole Fukuoka and Yufuin itinerary, continue with the Kyushu travel hub.
Hotels to compare for your route
For a stay in Yufuin, plan the station, your hotel, and where your walk around Lake Kinrin begins and ends. These two options are near the station. Check luggage storage and meal service with the hotel and the rate plan you choose.
Yufuin Sansuikan: For linking arrival, walks, and departure through Yufuin Station
Yufuin Sansuikan is at 108-1 Kawaminami, Yufuincho, Yufu, Oita. It is an option for travelers arriving by train or bus who want to use a hotel near the station as a base for a walk and the next day’s departure. Agoda may show a Japanese or local-language property name that differs from the English name, so compare the address too.
Its location is different from staying right by Lake Kinrin. Plan where your walk starts and ends and where you will collect your bags, using the hotel entrance as your reference. Do not assume luggage storage before check-in; ask the hotel. Check the selected rate plan for included meals, the latest arrival time for a meal, beds, and cancellation terms.

Yufuin Kotobuki Hananosho: For comparing a ryokan night near Yufuin Station
Yufuin Kotobuki Hananosho is at 2900-5 Kawakami, Yufuincho, Yufu. The Japan Ryokan and Hotel Association and both booking sites list the same name and address for this ryokan near the station. You can plan your arrival-day luggage and next-day departure around the hotel.
It is not right beside Lake Kinrin, so plan the route back after your lakeside walk. If you choose a rate with meals, ask the hotel whether dinner is still served after a late arrival and what the arrival cutoff is. Do not assume pickup or luggage storage; confirm whether either is available, along with the room’s beds, meals, and cancellation terms.
