Yufuin Station Coin Lockers & Luggage Storage: Fees and Hours

The lockers in front of Yufuin Station and Chikki beside it are different places

The building facing the front of Yufuin Station houses the general tourism office of the Yufuin Onsen Tourist Association and Ryokan Association, and it has coin lockers inside. The official address is 4-1 Kawakita, Yufuin-cho, Yufu City, Oita Prefecture. The general tourism office page lists its hours as 9:00 to 17:00 and the locker closing days as irregular.

If a large bag doesn't fit a locker, check Yufuin Chikki on the first floor of the Yufu City Tourist Information Center beside the station. The official address is 8-5 Kawakita. It has its own Chikki coin lockers, temporary counter storage and a delivery service for bags sent to some lodgings. The two places are easy to mix up as "in front of the station" and "beside the station," so confirm the destination on a map before you set out.

The official guides don't show in real time which lockers are free. If your bag is an awkward size or the drop-off time matters, a locker may not be free, so check where the two facilities are, then follow the instructions on site. Even inside Chikki, lockers and counter storage are priced differently

The official Chikki page lists coin lockers and staffed temporary storage separately. The amounts below are the fees shown on the official page when it was checked on October 7, 2026. The page says the fees were revised on October 1, 2025. Check the notices on site again once your travel dates are set.

The Chikki page also lists base fees for bags sent to lodgings, by size. It shows LL at ¥1,200 for items 80 cm or taller, L at ¥1,000 for 60 cm up to under 80 cm, and M at ¥800 for under 60 cm. A small bag (S) is ¥600, and a small paper or plastic bag (SS) is ¥300. For items of 20 kg or more, the page lists extra charges on top of the base fee: ¥200 for 20 kg up to under 25 kg, and ¥500 for 25 kg or more. Confirm the actual size category and fee when you hand the bag over, and remember that these size categories are not coin locker dimensions.

The page for the tourism office in front of the station says only that coin lockers exist; it shows neither prices nor interior dimensions. That leaves no basis for saying the lockers in front of the station are cheaper than Chikki's, or that a particular suitcase fits.

Delivery to your lodging and pickup from your lodging to Chikki are requested in different directions

When sending from Chikki to your lodging, delivery requests are accepted from 9:00 to 15:00. Delivery and pickup are limited to lodgings that belong to the Yufuin Onsen Tourist Association. The list of participating lodgings linked from the official page is dated November 2025, and the page says the list may change without notice. Even if your lodging's name is on the list, check with the lodging first whether it can take the service on your travel date and how you receive the bag.

When sending from your lodging to Chikki, the request must be made through the lodging between 9:00 and 11:30 on the day of use. The official guide says to ask the lodging at least 2 hours before the pickup time you want, and that bags are picked up from the lodging from 11:30 onward. The page doesn't state when you can collect the bag at Chikki, so if you need it that day, check arrival times with both the lodging and Chikki. Advance reservations are not accepted, and payment is in cash for each one-way trip.

"Chikki to lodging" and "lodging to Chikki" differ in cutoff time and in where you make the request. Because the page states the list may change, it is safer to check the lodging's answer as well.

Choose where to leave your bag by your day plan and your lodging

• If you carry a small bag and want to start walking right after you arrive: check where the lockers in the building in front of the station are. Dimensions and fees are not on the official page, so you have to judge on site whether the bag fits and whether a locker is free.
• If you need the fees shown for Chikki lockers or counter storage: go to the first floor of the information center beside the station. Counter storage has separate fees by height, and its hours are 9:00 to 17:00.
• If you want to send a bag ahead to the lodging where you are staying: check with the lodging whether it participates and how requests actually work, then submit the delivery request at Chikki between 9:00 and 15:00.
• If you want to send a bag from your lodging toward the station: arrange it through the lodging within the same-day request window and the minimum lead time. The pickup from the lodging is after 11:30, and the arrival time at Chikki has to be checked separately.

Hotels to compare for your route

For a stay in Yufuin, plan the station, your hotel, and where your walk around Lake Kinrin begins and ends. These two options are near the station. Check luggage storage and meal service with the hotel and the rate plan you choose.

Yufuin Sansuikan: For linking arrival, walks, and departure through Yufuin Station

Yufuin Sansuikan is at 108-1 Kawaminami, Yufuincho, Yufu, Oita. It is an option for travelers arriving by train or bus who want to use a hotel near the station as a base for a walk and the next day’s departure. Agoda may show a Japanese or local-language property name that differs from the English name, so compare the address too.

Its location is different from staying right by Lake Kinrin. Plan where your walk starts and ends and where you will collect your bags, using the hotel entrance as your reference. Do not assume luggage storage before check-in; ask the hotel. Check the selected rate plan for included meals, the latest arrival time for a meal, beds, and cancellation terms.

Yufuin Kotobuki Hananosho: For comparing a ryokan night near Yufuin Station

Yufuin Kotobuki Hananosho is at 2900-5 Kawakami, Yufuincho, Yufu. The Japan Ryokan and Hotel Association and both booking sites list the same name and address for this ryokan near the station. You can plan your arrival-day luggage and next-day departure around the hotel.

It is not right beside Lake Kinrin, so plan the route back after your lakeside walk. If you choose a rate with meals, ask the hotel whether dinner is still served after a late arrival and what the arrival cutoff is. Do not assume pickup or luggage storage; confirm whether either is available, along with the room’s beds, meals, and cancellation terms.
