Subway or direct bus: what should you compare?
Scroll the table sideways. With a keyboard, move focus to the table and use the arrow keys.
| Option | Route | What to check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Shuttle + subway | International terminal → domestic terminal → Hakata or Tenjin Station | Shuttle wait, station exits, and the walk above ground to the hotel |
| City bus from the international terminal | International terminal bus stop → bus stop in the city | Stop by operator, drop-off point, and the timetable on the day |
| Taxi | Airport taxi stand → the destination you specify | Exact hotel address, number of passengers and bags, and the actual fare |
Buses and taxis depend on road conditions, and even the subway does not guarantee the total time from arrival to your hotel. Add immigration, baggage claim, and the wait for your ride to your flight's arrival time when you plan.
Subway: take the free shuttle from stop 5 at the international terminal
- Leave the international arrivals hall and board the free terminal shuttle at stop 5.
- Get off at the south stop of the domestic terminal.
- You can reach the subway through the nearby 1A and 1B entrances. If you have a stroller or wheelchair, check the elevator route separately.
- Take the Airport Line to Hakata Station or Tenjin Station, whichever suits your hotel.
The entrances and the shuttle drop-off point are described in the airport's official guide from the international terminal to the subway. For shuttle service in each direction, check the terminal shuttle timetable.
Hakata and Tenjin are both stations on the Airport Line. Tenjin Minami is on the Nanakuma Line, so it is a different station from Tenjin Station on the Airport Line. For the direction of the train you will board and the first and last trains, continue to the relevant timetable through the Fukuoka City Subway route guide.

Direct bus: check the destination and the operator together
The airport's official bus guide lists international terminal departures as follows. Even for the same Hakata and Tenjin areas, the stop differs by operator.
Scroll the table sideways. With a keyboard, move focus to the table and use the arrow keys.
| Destination | Operator | Stop |
|---|---|---|
| Hakata Station | Nishitetsu | 6 and 7 |
| Tenjin | Nishitetsu group | 8 |
| Hakata and Tenjin | HEARTS | 11 |
In the airport's official bus guide, selecting a destination leads to the operator's timetable. This table reflects the guide as checked on October 7, 2026. Check the actual departures, fares, and stops again for your travel date.
When you choose a bus, a destination labeled "Tenjin" is not enough. Compare the stop where you need to get off with the hotel's access directions. The free terminal shuttle and the buses into the city do different jobs, and knowing whether you need to go to the domestic terminal or take a bus that runs straight from the international terminal to the city makes the right stop easier to find.
With a lot of luggage, compare the last stretch on foot too
If fewer transfers matter most, look first at the departure time of the direct bus from the international terminal and the drop-off point near your hotel. On the subway, check both the way down to the station after the shuttle and the walk from the city station to the hotel. With a stroller or large bags, a route with an elevator can work better than the nearest exit with stairs.
If you still need to choose where to stay, see the comparison of hotel locations in Hakata and Tenjin. If you are considering a taxi, have the hotel's exact name and address ready and check the airport's official taxi stand guide. This guide gives no fixed fare or luggage allowance for taxis.

For a late arrival, go by the time you can board, not the landing time
If your flight arrives late, check the remaining shuttle, subway, and direct bus departures separately. You will not reach the stop the moment you land, so leave time for immigration and baggage claim. If making the last departure looks difficult, check the airport's official taxi guide and your hotel's late check-in conditions, and change your transfer plan accordingly.
Timetables can differ by direction, day of the week, and operator. Rather than applying another traveler's past last-departure time, check the operator's information for your travel date.
For the trip home, leave time for the leg back to the international terminal
If you return to the airport by subway, you arrive at the airport station on the domestic terminal side. To catch an international flight, you need one more terminal shuttle ride. Check each step in order: leaving the hotel, getting to the subway station, waiting for the train and the shuttle, and the check-in deadline of your international airline.
If you take a bus, check which terminal it arrives at as well. Once you have settled both directions, you can use the Fukuoka rainy-day 2-night, 3-day itinerary to fit your first and last days together. If you are also planning trips outside the city, choose your next reading from the Fukuoka and Yufuin trip-planning hub.
Hotels to compare for your route
Hakata and Tenjin are different bases. Decide whether airport and JR connections matter more, or shopping and dining in Tenjin and departures on the Nishitetsu line. Then compare the actual entrances and room terms at these two hotels.
JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Hakata Central: For using Hakata Station as a base and planning around luggage
JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Hakata Central is at 2-2-11 Hakataekimae, Hakata-ku, Fukuoka. It is one option to compare if you want to use Hakata Station for airport and rail connections as well as city plans. It is a different property from the similarly named Blossom Fukuoka, so check the English name and address together.
If Tenjin is a main part of your itinerary, allow for a trip back from a different part of the city. Even a hotel near the station has an outdoor segment to its entrance; check the exit and route if you have large bags. Before booking, confirm the selected room’s bed setup, breakfast, and cancellation terms. Ask the hotel whether it can store luggage before check-in or after checkout.

Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel Fukuoka: For Tenjin shopping and Nishitetsu departures
Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel Fukuoka is at 2-2-43 Tenjin, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka. Compare it if you plan to shop and eat in Tenjin, return to your room, and head out again. Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station and Tenjin Station on the Airport Line are not the same platforms; check which station and entrance suit your next trip.
If you often take JR trains from Hakata, you will need to plan the trip from this area to Hakata Station. A station connection in the building does not mean every entrance provides the same route to the hotel. Before booking, check the route to the hotel lobby, the room’s beds and occupancy, breakfast, and cancellation terms.
