A layover's length alone does not tell you whether you can leave Changi Airport. First check whether your itinerary requires you to clear arrival immigration, then confirm Singapore's entry requirements for your passport and circumstances.

If you can enter Singapore, check Gardens by the Bay's official operating and maintenance calendar for your actual visit date. The guides below explain airport hotel access and the garden visit in detail.

Plan baggage storage or re-checking and the departure terminal; assess your own connection rather than relying on a universal minimum transfer time.

Check immigration and connection requirements first

Your plan differs depending on whether you stay in the transit area or clear arrival immigration to collect baggage or check in for another flight. Singapore ICA defines transit travellers as people travelling onward without clearing arrival immigration. If your connection requires entry, the usual entry requirements apply; ask your airline if you are unsure.

Airside transit hotels are in the departure transit area, while YOTELAIR at Jewel is in the public area. A hotel booking does not give you permission to enter Singapore, so match the hotel's location to your entry eligibility, flight tickets, and baggage arrangements.

Plan Gardens by the Bay for your actual visit date

Only add a garden visit after checking that you can enter Singapore and that the airport-to-garden trip fits your own connection plan. Entry and visa requirements depend on your passport and circumstances, so check ICA's current guidance.

Cloud Forest, Flower Dome, Floral Fantasy, and OCBC Skyway can have different hours, last admissions, and maintenance closures. Check the official calendar and ticket details for your visit date instead of carrying dates from an earlier notice into a new itinerary.

Choose a hotel in an area you can actually reach

Decide whether you will remain in the airport transit area, clear immigration for Jewel, or stay in the city. If you cannot or do not plan to clear immigration, do not base your plan on a landside hotel or a garden visit. If you enter Singapore, leave time to return to the airport and complete departure procedures.

For a city stay around the gardens, check which entrance and route you will use, then compare hotel locations and room conditions in the detailed guide. Being near the gardens does not guarantee a particular room or a direct indoor connection.

Check the whole connection before booking

Confirm passport and entry eligibility, the airline's connection and baggage arrangements, the gardens' official closure calendar and ticket coverage, and whether your chosen hotel is airside or landside. Then account for check-in, security, terminal transfers, and the route back to your departure gate.

There is no single layover-hour threshold that makes an off-airport visit suitable for everyone. Check the airline's connection requirements separately, then see whether your actual itinerary has room for immigration, the trip to and from the gardens, and departure procedures. If not, shorten or skip the visit.
