Choose where to stay by how you will spend your time, not by city name
In the rainy period, a hotel-change day also counts as a travel day. The criteria below are a starting point for a 3 to 4 night trip that cuts down on moving luggage while keeping enough time in each city, not a fixed answer.

If you have not yet decided which city to spend more time in, write down your main sightseeing days and evening plans before you split your booking. Changing hotels adds check-out, time to leave your luggage and time to pick it up again.
The rainy-season periods for the two cities partly overlap, but check the forecast by date separately
The Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center describes Da Nang's rainy season as roughly September to December. Vietnam National Authority of Tourism's Hoi An guidance says rainy days and storms can occur from October to January. Even in the overlapping months, it does not rain every day, and this information does not predict the weather on your travel dates.
When choosing where to stay, do not assume that one city is easier to keep dry just because it is the rainy season. As departure approaches, check the forecast by date and the notices from facility and transport operators, and avoid packing each day so tightly that you cannot move outdoor visits to drier hours. The Da Nang tourism guidance also lists cafes, museums and local restaurants worth considering in rainy periods.
In Da Nang, you can look at the Museum of Cham Sculpture as an indoor alternative. Check the operating information in the official guidance before visiting.
Hoi An Heritage introduced a Japanese tea ceremony experience at the Japanese culture gallery at 06 Nguyen Thi Minh Khai in its January 2026 announcement. Check that it also operates on your visit date before adding it to your plan.
If the beach and Da Nang city are your focus, stay in Da Nang
If you plan a one-day walk around the old town in Hoi An and spend the rest of your time at My Khe Beach and in Da Nang city, a Da Nang hotel is your base. After a long evening in Hoi An, though, the trip back remains. Do not assume a last bus or a night car from the hotel location alone; check the transport you will actually use and its departure point before booking.

If nights in the Old Town are the focus, stay in Hoi An
If you want more time walking or cycling around Hoi An Ancient Town and the surrounding countryside, staying in Hoi An is more convenient. Vietnam National Authority of Tourism presents walking and cycling for exploring the old town and the countryside. On the other hand, if you plan to go back and forth to Da Nang's beach or city several times, the trips between the cities can pile up.

If you spend 2 or more nights in Hoi An, consider a split stay
On a 3-night trip where you want to see both Da Nang's beach and Hoi An Ancient Town and plan to enjoy the evenings in Hoi An fully, one example is a split such as 1 night in Da Nang followed by 2 nights in Hoi An. For 4 nights, choose between 1 to 2 nights in Da Nang and 2 to 3 nights in Hoi An according to your visit days in each city. This combination is an example to adjust to your flights and plans by date, not a rule you must follow.

Gallery photos are images for introducing the hotel. The name and terms can differ by booked product. Check the number of guests, bed configuration and cancellation terms in the details of the room you actually select.
Where is better if I choose only one place?
If most of your plans are in Da Nang, consider Da Nang first. If the evening in Hoi An Ancient Town and the next day's visits matter more, consider Hoi An first. The choice becomes clearer when you decide by the time you want to spend in each place rather than by the number of nights in the two cities.
